I saw Thunderbolts last night and my dear SamBucky fam, that's what you've been freaking out about?

The New Avengers title is a joke. Literally. They are not the new "Avengers," they are the "New Avengers." There used to be like 4 or 5 Avengers titles running concurrently in the comics, with The New Avengers being one of them. My friend was trying to name them all and failed. The movie was very tongue in cheek, and they are clearly being set up to be the B team. All the newspaper clippings at the end were about how the public is not buying it.

The SamBucky divorce is not that serious. I do not think Sam is threatened by the New Avengers at all. The vibe I got was that Sam is putting together the main squad and Bucky is trying to bring in all the stray cats he brought home, and the puppy eyes did not work this time and he is sulking. He probably told Bucky he could bring Yelena cause they need a Black Widow and Bucky was like "but they're a bonded set I can't separate them!" The impression I got wasn't that he was fighting with Sam about the leadership of The Avengers, but that he doesn't want to let down Sam, or his collection of weirdos.

ok, but imagine a post/mid-credits scene:

We see a dark door to Bucky's apartment from the inside, then hear rattling. Bucky opens the door while on the phone with Sam, ranting about what happened during the movie.

Then, he notices that there's faint light in one of his rooms, abruptly stopping the conversation and saying he'll call back. He cauciously walks up to the room as silently as he can, pulling out some kind of weapon in the meantime. He takes a steading breath and walks in.

Near a lightstand sits a man, one Bucky knows all too well, reading one of his books, his coat folded nearby. He doesn't look at Bucky but acknowledges him, greeting him.

Then he starts to talk.

He talks about power, how it corrupts absolutely. He talks about irony, how somones impulsive want can become their only purpose, the thing that was supposed to kill them the only value keeping them alive. He talks about a mission he was sent for, how it obviously is something he wasn't supposed to return from alive. He says that they can call it paying back for his help from last time, to make them even.

Bucky only raises his eyebrow, visibly unimpressed that so little info was supposed to convince him to do anything, especially for him. He asks for more details.

The man looks at him for a moment in silence, then closes the book he was reading.

"Say James," says Zemo, tilting his head, "What do you know about Latveria?"

I love that the MCU has a confirmed multiverse because my versions of what happens to the characters in different worlds is limitless. If I don't like canon, that's fine; I'll just make up a different universe instead. I like canon but also like imagining something else happened? I'll just make up a different universe.

Natasha died and Steve went back in time to be with someone else? Nah, they're soulmates in almost every other universe.

Clint has a wife and kids that I do like in the main timeline? Sure, why not? But there's another world where he ends up with Natasha because I said so.

Natasha died and barely got any time with her sister after finding Yelena? Absolutely did not happen in either of the above mentioned worlds. She finds her sister, fights Alexei some more, and the two become close because I said it has to happen.

Wanda dies by having rubble fall on her after she tries to get her sons back? No, she's living happily ever after with Vision and her twin sons.

Peggy Carter ends up with Steve in the end? Well, in my universe, she ends up with Daniel Sousa.

Grant Ward betrays the team and ends up dying alone for his body to be used by some alien parasite? Well, there are 2 ways we can fix this: the world where he never betrayed them and the other world where he actually does get a redemption.

Phil Coulson permanently dies and he and Melinda May never actually get their happily ever after? Nah. He's alive and well and they're married. The Bus Kids come by every so often for dinner.
